On behalf of the organising committee, it is with great pleasure that I invite you back to the 21st Annual Kuwait Assembly in Surgery (AKUPAS)
The conference is taking place in the State of Kuwait, which is located at the northwest corner of the Arabian Gulf with Kuwait City, a vibrant cosmopolitan metropolis rich in history and culture.
This year we aim to reaffirm the basics of good practice, emphasize the role of ongoing surgical education and research, provide the practicing surgeon with the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases, along with updates on the most recent consensus for controversial issues.
We strive to offer you a most intensive scientific program and a fruitful discussion by faculty guests from North America, Europe, and the Middle East, as well as an exhibition, which will hold the latest in surgical technology and innovation.
This is the 10th year that the Kuwait Surgical Society is actively participating in the conference.
In the quest to achieve balance and equity Women Surgeons of Kuwait (WSK) have played an integral role in this conference.
We have to acknowledge equally the role of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT) for their continued support for their local chapter in Kuwait.

Dr. Mousa Khoursheed
MBCHB, FRCS, FACS (Hon), FASMBS
Dr. Mousa Khoursheed is a Professor of Surgery at Kuwait University and a leader in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. He is the Founder and President of the Kuwait Surgical Society and Founder/President of the Kuwait Chapter of SSAT. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board and Head of Surgery at Taiba Hospital (2017–2021). He holds active roles in major international surgical societies, serves on editorial boards of leading journals, and has directed the Annual Kuwait Postgraduate Assembly in Surgery (AKUPAS) since 2002. His honors include Honorary Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons and Honorary Membership of the American Surgical Association.
Dr. Ibtisam Albader
FRCSC, FRCSeng
Dr. Ibtisam is the Chairperson, Department of Surgery Adan Hospital Kuwait. She is also the Chairperson Faculty of General Surgery Kuwait institution for medical specialization (KIMS) and an Assistant Professor, General Surgery, Department of Surgery College of Medicine, Kuwait University .
Dr. Hussein A. Safar
BSC, M.D, FRCS
Dr. Hussein Safar is a Kuwaiti doctor, studied school in Kuwait, his medical school at royal collage of Ireland graduated (MD) in 1992, his postgraduate in general surgery was from the same royal college of surgeon (FRCS) in 1997. He was trained at Canada and obtained Vascular Fellowship at Mc Master University in 2001, and obtained the International Colleges of Surgeons, Vascular Fellowship (ICS) in 2008, He is working as full vascular consultant surgeon from 2002 till now Mubarak AL Kabeer Hospital in Kuwait. His experience on vascular surgery gained from Kuwait, France, Ireland and Canada. He has 22 publications in international journals. He is interested in varicose vein, carotid, aortic aneurysm and diabetic foot.
Dr. Obaid Al-Harbi
FRCS, FACS
Dr. Obaid Al-Harbi, FRCS, FACS, is a consultant general laparoscopic, robotic, and bariatric surgeon with over 25 years of experience. He graduated and trained in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK), then continued his training in Kuwait and Ireland, and holds FRCS, FACS, FRCSI, MRCSEd, and multiple international memberships. He currently serves at Farwaniya Hospital and practices across several leading private hospitals in Kuwait. He performs advanced laparoscopic and robotic general and bariatric surgical procedures. He is active in research, national medical committees, resident training, and international surgical conferences.
Dr. Yousef Bahzad
BSc, M.D, KBGS, FRCS.
Dr. Yousef Bahzad is a specialist general surgeon with expertise in laparoscopic and robotic bariatric and upper gastrointestinal (UGI) surgery. He completed a fellowship in UGI and bariatric surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, UK, and currently practices at Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital, where he performs advanced general, UGI, and bariatric surgical procedures. He is a former Board Member of the Kuwait Surgical Society and an active member of the Kuwait Association of Surgeons, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), BOMSS, and IFSO.
